St. Francis Old Vine Zinfandel, Sonoma County, 2008
Price: Retails for just under $20.00. I have seen this wine on sale for $14.00-17.00 on several occasions.
Impressions: Rich, rich, rich. Initial impression of brown sugar, clove, and sweet spice. Mouth-filling fruit with lots of plum on the finish. Probably not the first wine that I’d recommend to serve with dinner, but don’t worry, this one is an entree and a dessert in a bottle.
Dry Creek Vineyard, Heritage Zinfandel, 2008
Price: Retails for around $19.00. I have seen this wine on sale for as low as $16.00
Impressions: More subtle than the St. Francis, this is a nice zin. Boysenberry, bacon fat, and smoke were abundant. Slightly tart in the mouth with nice acidity. A unique wine with lots of character.
