Precept Wine is the largest privately owned wine company in the Northwest, with our own vineyards, wineries, and tasting rooms. Battle Creek Cellars by Browne Family is our urban tasting room in Portland, Oregon. The Assistant Tasting Room Manager reports directly to the General Manager and helps lead the daily operation of the tasting room. This is a hands-on role that combines floor leadership and shift coverage with active involvement in staff training, the food program, wine club, events, marketing support, and general tasting room support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Hospitality and Floor Operations

  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere and memorable tasting experience for all guests
  • Serve as manager on duty and support the team during daily service, opening and closing procedures, and events
  • Maintain regular floor presence and be available to cover opening, closing, floor, and event shifts as needed, including evenings and weekends
  • Share wine and winery knowledge and effectively promote wine, memberships, food, merchandise, and events
  • Support inventory, ordering, reservations, schedules, reporting, calendars, and other assigned tasting room projects

Training and Team Support

  • Play an active role in onboarding, training, and coaching staff in wine, hospitality, sales, food service, systems, and procedures
  • Help maintain training materials, checklists, and standard operating procedures
  • Communicate staff needs, guest concerns, and operational issues clearly with the General Manager

Wine Club

  • Assist with wine club runs, fulfillment, and pickup and shipping preparation
  • Help maintain member records and support club events
  • Respond to general tasting room and wine club inquiries, including account, payment, pickup, shipping, and benefit questions

Events

  • Assist with planning and coordination for public, private, wine club, and offsite events
  • Support event setup, service, and breakdown

Food Program

  • Support daily kitchen readiness, including prep, organization, food quality, and food safety
  • Contribute to menu ideas and seasonal offerings

Marketing

  • Assist the General Manager in capturing photos and videos of happenings in the tasting room to be shared on the tasting room's social media accounts

DESIRED SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of customer service or hospitality experience preferred
  • One year of lead, supervisory, or training experience preferred
  • Comfort capturing photos and short-form video for a business or organization's social media preferred
  • Experience with employee training and food service or kitchen operations preferred
  • Passion for wine, food, hospitality, and creating memorable guest experiences
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfort using Point of Sale, reservation, email, spreadsheet, and social media systems
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and able to lift items up to 40 pounds and stand or walk for lengthy periods
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, special events, and shift coverage as needed
  • OLCC Service Permit and Food Handlers Permit required
