JOB STATEMENT: The Multi-Site Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager provides enterprise-level strategic leadership, regulatory governance, and operational oversight across 3 wine production facilities. Reporting directly to the Vice President of EHS, this role drives the alignment of occupational safety, food safety interfaces, and environmental sustainability with corporate business objectives. The EHS Manager serves as a critical partner to Plant Managers, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Executive Leadership to mitigate high-volume operational risks, manage extensive water and waste streams, and institutionalize a zero-injury safety culture.
Essential Duties:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Report directly to the VP of EHS, escalating critical risks, compliance metrics, and strategic project updates across all enterprise locations.
- Direct EHS governance for 3 wine making facilities (Ceres, Napa, Santa Rosa), ensuring corporate alignment and localized compliance.
- Execute regular cross-site auditing, standardized KPI tracking, and systemic root-cause corrective action implementations across all filling, packaging, and warehousing operations.
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable a matrixed team of site EHS coordinators, optimizing talent density and specialized capabilities.
- Absorb and seamlessly institutionalize the operational responsibilities of unstaffed EHS leadership roles to maintain flawless continuity of plant compliance.
Beverage-Specific Hazard Mitigation & Operational Safety
- Manage specialized safety programs for extreme manufacturing environments, including high-pressure processing (HPP), thermal pasteurization systems, and steam generation hazards.
- Develop engineering controls and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols for high-speed glass handling, bottling lines, broken glass containment, and pressurized container hazards.
Enterprise Environmental Stewardship & Utilities Compliance
- Serve as the Enterprise Environmental Champion, directing governance for industrial wastewater discharge, stormwater pollution prevention (SWPPP), refrigeration systems (PSM/RMP where applicable), air permits, and boiler compliance.
- Engineer advanced environmental management systems (EMS) that target utility reduction, focusing heavily on water-use efficiency (water-to-product ratios), energy conservation, and true zero-waste-to-landfill strategies.
- Command all environmental incident investigations, spearhead regulatory defense strategies, and orchestrate immediate corrective-preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate NOV risks.
Capital Project Influence
- Design and execute the scalable integration framework for onboarding newly acquired lines, processing equipment, or complete facilities into the enterprise EHS ecosystem.
- Author comprehensive, EHS policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks optimized for beverage processing environments and automated beverage logistics.
- Mitigate project risks by implementing rigorous Management of Change (MOC) and New Equipment Review (NER) protocols for new production lines, facility expansions, and infrastructure upgrades.
Regulatory Compliance & Food Safety Intersect
- Audit multi-site operations against OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local jurisdictions (e.g., LEPC/CUPA/Cal/OSHA), transform high-risk gaps into robust operational controls.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance (QA) to ensure perfect synergy between EHS chemical management safety/chemical clearance protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) / Food Safety standards (SQF, BRC, FDA).
- Govern all OSHA 300 logs, mandatory environmental recordkeeping, chemical safety data sheet (SDS) compliance, and formal regulatory defense documentation for all assigned business units.
Cultural Transformation & Executive Reporting
- Architect and deploy high-impact safety education curricula tailored to multi-shift, high-speed beverage production workforces to actively reduce TRIR.
- Re-engineer plant safety committees, operational toolbox talks, and leadership accountability workshops to build a proactive human performance culture.
- Synthesize complex EHS data, leading safety indicators, SMS implementation milestones, and corporate sustainability metrics into actionable strategic presentations for the VP of EHS and corporate executive leadership.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, consistent with the position’s purpose and operational needs
