JOB STATEMENT: The Senior Human Resources Generalist supports the organization’s people strategy by administering employee benefits programs, providing payroll backup support, and delivering core HR services. This role helps ensure regulatory compliance, accurate employee records and deductions, and a positive employee experience. This position partners with HR leadership, payroll, finance, and external vendors to support compliant benefit programs, timely pay-related coordination, accurate reporting, and responsive service to employees and managers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employee Support & Experience

  • Provide training and guidance to employees and managers on benefits programs and HR processes
  • Support onboarding processes related to benefits enrollment and employee HR documentation
  • Promote a positive employee experience through responsive and accurate HR support
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provide guidance and support on employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
  • Partner with managers on recruitment efforts, including job postings, interviews, offers, and onboarding for regional positions.
  • Support HR compliance by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and ensuring adherence across all locations.
  • Administer employee benefits, leave of absence programs, and workplace accommodations.
  • Assist with training and development initiatives, including compliance training, leadership development, and employee engagement programs.
  • Conduct regular site visits across multiple locations to provide in-person HR support and strengthen workplace culture.
  • Partner with payroll and HR operations teams to ensure accuracy of employee records and timely processing of transactions.
  • Collaborate with leadership on workforce planning, retention strategies, and organizational initiatives.
  • Lead or support HR projects and other duties as assigned.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, voluntary benefits, and related wellness offerings
  • Partner with HR Leadership as a liaison with benefits brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, and internal payroll/finance partners
  • Manage the full benefits enrollment lifecycle, including new hire enrollment, qualifying life events, open enrollment, terminations, and dependent changes
  • Lead open enrollment planning, employee communications, system setup, carrier file review, and employee support
  • Ensure compliance with ACA, COBRA/Cal-COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, Section 125 plan requirements, and applicable California benefit-related obligations
  • Audit benefit enrollment data and coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate employee deductions, employer contributions, retroactive adjustments, and arrears handling
  • Reconcile benefits invoices, research discrepancies, and partner with finance/payroll to ensure timely and accurate payment processing
  • Support leave of absence administration and benefit continuation processes, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA/FEHA accommodations, and related return-to-work coordination
  • Respond to employee inquiries and provide education on benefit offerings, eligibility, enrollment procedures, and claims escalation resources

Payroll Backup & HR/Payroll Coordination

  • Serve as a trained backup to payroll by providing routine payroll processing support during absences, peak periods, or other business needs.
  • Review and validate payroll-related employee changes, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, job changes, deductions, and benefit-related payroll inputs
  • Assist with payroll audit reports, exception review, timekeeping follow-up, deduction reconciliation, and resolution of employee pay or benefit deduction discrepancies
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of payroll-related information and ensure payroll support activities align with wage and hour requirements and internal controls
  • Partner with payroll, HR, finance, and operations to troubleshoot system issues, improve workflows, and support timely, accurate payroll processing

Compliance & HR Operations

  • Ensure compliance with California wage and hour laws including overtime and meal/rest breaks
  • Maintain HR policies related to benefits, payroll coordination, and core HR operations
  • Support internal and external audits related to benefits, payroll records, and employee data
  • Assist with regulatory reporting such as EEO-1 and ACA filings
  • Partner with HR leadership on process improvements and best practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience, including benefits administration and payroll coordination; senior-level generalist experience preferred
  • Experience in a California employment environment strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Experience working with HR, benefits, payroll, or timekeeping systems
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis)
  • Experience with HR reporting, benefits tracking, and employee data review
  • Working knowledge of payroll processes, timekeeping systems, benefit deduction setup, and payroll audit practices

Knowledge & Expertise

  • Strong understanding of benefits administration and compliance
  • Understanding of California labor laws and federal employment regulations
  • Familiarity with leave laws (FMLA, CFRA, ADA/FEHA)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Hybrid or onsite depending on business needs
  • May require extended hours during open enrollment or system implementations

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection and proper footwear when in production facility
