Waterbrook Tasting Room Management Team - Job Description

A Winery Tasting Room Management Team is responsible for leading the front-of-house operations of a winery’s tasting rooms, ensuring exceptional guest experience, driving direct-to-consumer sales, and maintaining operational excellence.

Role Overview

The tasting room management team oversees all aspects of the tasting room’s daily operations, from staffing and inventory to events and brand representation. They are the primary point of contact for guests, acting as brand ambassadors and driving both customer satisfaction and revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Leadership

  • Assist with oversight of daily operations of tasting room, including scheduling, staffing, and coordinating events.
  • Assist with inventory management of wine, merchandise, and supplies; conduct regular counts and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance standards are met with health, safety, and food handling regulations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming spaces.

2. Staff Management

  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and developing tasting room associates, servers, and event staff.
  • Assist with training programs on wine knowledge, brand story, service standards, and sales techniques.
  • Lead by example in customer service and hold staff accountable to high standards.
  • Foster a collaborative, sales-driven culture and support employee retention.

3. Guest Experience & Sales

  • Deliver wine education and service excellence to all guests.
  • Coordinate tastings, tours, and special events to enhance brand engagement.
  • Drive direct-to-consumer sales (wine, merchandise, wine club memberships) and meet revenue targets.
  • Serve as the winery’s brand ambassador, communicating its story and values to guests.

4. Marketing & Events

  • Collaborate with marketing and event coordinators to plan and execute events (weddings, parties, dinners and private functions).
  • Manage wine club programs, allocations, and member experiences.
  • Partner with local vendors and partners to expand event offerings.

5. Financial & Systems Management

  • Oversee Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, including training, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Assist with managing tasting room budgets, labor costs, and cost of goods sold.
  • Assist with merchandising, displays, and promotional materials.

Essential Skills

  • Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of wine and beverage offerings.
  • Leadership & Communication: Ability to lead teams, inspire staff, and connect with guests.
  • Sales Acumen: Skilled in upselling, promotions, and driving DTC revenue.
  • Event Coordination: Experience planning and executing tastings, tours, and private events.
  • Compliance & Safety: Knowledge of food service regulations and operational safety standards.

Typical Work Environment

  • High visibility to customers, often working weekends and special event days.
  • May require on-call availability for events or staffing needs.
  • Collaborative, fast-paced environment with a focus on hospitality and brand building.
